About the Event

About the Canadian Grand Prix Circuit

The Montreal racing first took place in 1967 when the event was included in the Formula 1 calendar. Mosport Park was given the prestige of hosting the races amidst all Canadian race tracks. The Canadian Grand Prix has also been held at Circuit Mont-Tremblant on two occasions before the Gilles Villeneuve circuit was chosen as the destination in 1978. The track has been used since then and was named in honour of Gilles Villeneuve.

The fast, low-downforce circuit is one of the drivers’ favourites. The track is quite stop-start, with lots of heavy-braking chicanes. Out of the corners, the track is quick and flowing, while the most iconic piece of the circuit comes right at the end of the lap: the Wall of Champions, so-called after excursions into it from Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher during the 1999 Canadian Grand Prix weekend.
