Eagle’s Nest

Eagles' Nest, nestled in a secluded valley on the slopes of the historic Constantia mountain range, is a renowned wine farm that embodies excellence and unwavering commitment to quality. Situated within the esteemed World Heritage Site of Table Mountain, Eagles' Nest boasts a rich heritage dating back to 1836 when it served as a vital rest stop for travelers crossing the majestic Constantia Neck mountain pass.

In 1984, the Mylrea family acquired the 38-hectare farm, which unfortunately suffered significant damage from the devastating Cape fires in 2000. Despite the destruction, the farm's historic buildings remained intact, inspiring the Mylrea family to transform Eagles' Nest into a vineyard that would honor the exceptional terroir of the Constantia Valley, renowned for its award-winning wines.

Under the stewardship of the German family-owned Elleke Group, Eagles' Nest has flourished as a prominent wine estate. With a diverse portfolio of investments in South Africa spanning agriculture, thoroughbred horse stud farming, hospitality, and high-end residential properties, the Elleke Group brings a wealth of expertise and passion to Eagles' Nest.

Winemaker Craig Barnard, formerly of Cavalli in Stellenbosch, joined the team in January, adding his expertise to the winemaking process. Together, the team at Eagles' Nest crafts wines that reflect the unique character of the Constantia mountains. The vineyards, originally part of the renowned Groot Constantia estate, now span 12 hectares of the property, ranging from 140 meters to 400 meters in elevation. The terraced vineyards, a testament to the farm's steep slopes, create an ideal microclimate for grape cultivation.

Benefiting from a relatively cool climate, with temperatures reaching 25–28 °C in mid-summer, Eagles' Nest produces wines that exude elegance and finesse. The vineyard predominantly cultivates Merlot, Shiraz, and Viognier grapes, carefully selected to emulate the classic styles of their respective regions. Renowned winemaker Martin Meinert lends his expertise as a consultant, working alongside resident winemaker Stuart Botha to ensure the wines cater to the discerning palates of wine enthusiasts.

At Eagles' Nest, the commitment to crafting exceptional wines is matched only by the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings. With a rich history, a dedication to quality, and an unwavering passion for winemaking, Eagles' Nest stands as a testament to the artistry and complexity that can be achieved through meticulous attention to detail and a deep respect for the land.
